SOEs Send Initial and Follow-Up Disaster Relief to Aceh and North Sumatra, Mobilize Air Services to Speed Up Aid Delivery

Jakarta, 2 December 2025 - A series of floods and landslides that ravaged Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra over the past week has cut off roads across multiple areas. In Lhokseumawe and North Aceh, major roads are submerged in waist-deep water, bridges in several districts have collapsed, and thousands of people have been forced to seek shelter in mosques, schools, and government buildings. The local governments have declared a provincial-level state of emergency as daily logistical needs continue to rise.
In response, cross-agency coordination among state-owned enterprises (BUMN) was immediately activated. BPI Danantara Indonesia and the BUMN Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN) established a joint coordination center over the weekend to chart urgent needs, consolidate available aid from across the SOE ecosystem, and prepare alternative delivery routes as land access have become impassable.
Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani stressed the importance of opening air services to accelerate relief delivery. “When people need help, the Big Family of SOEs acts as one. Speed is critical,” he said.
Over the past few days, aid from SOEs has been airlifted to isolated areas, including northern Aceh. Initial airlift operations began over the weekend, followed by additional consolidated airlifts on Monday (1/12).
Thanks to a dedicated aircraft provided by Garuda and Citilink, 9.4 tons of relief supplies have been airlifted to Aceh via Kualanamu before being flown to Lhokseumawe. The supplies were collected by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) for distribution to emergency shelters, public facilities, and areas accessible only by high-clearance vehicles or boats.
In total, tens of tons of aid have been consolidated, including baby supplies, blankets, staple food, formula milk, ready-to-eat meals, medicines, vaccines, and other essentials for displaced people and isolated districts. Emergency kitchens and evacuation support teams have also been deployed, while relief posts have been established in multiple locations to provide essential supplies and basic health services.
Restoring public services has also become a priority to help people resume daily activities. Telkom Group reported that 12 STOs have shut down due to a blackout, affecting thousands of BTS towers. Recovery efforts are underway although some areas can only be reached by inflatable boats. PLN has deployed network materials and generators, working with the AirForce to airlift 41 generators by the Hercules military transport aircraft and helicopters to hospitals, ports, and logistics hubs.
Pertamina has boosted fuel and LPG supply by deploying additional tanker trucks from several regions, increasing supply from Padang, and sending 30 LPG skid tanks from Dumai. Pertamina also delivered emergency fuel for heavy machinery, 5,000 liters of Dexlite to North Tapanuli, and 6,000 liters of avtur to support BNPB’s air operations.
Following the initial airlift, the SOE Family is now preparing additional airlifts for other parts of Aceh, North and West Sumatra. Consolidation across SOEs is ongoing, with upcoming deliveries planned via a combination of air and sea routes, depending on weather conditions and the status of land access.
Rosan reaffirmed the long-term commitment of SOEs. “This is only the beginning. We will continue to work closely with BP BUMN and all state-owned enterprises to ensure aid reaches those in need and people in Aceh and across Sumatra can recover from the disaster as soon as possible,” he said.
With air routes now open, rapid mobilization of inter-SOE logistics system, and ongoing technical work to restore telecommunications and electricity, this humanitarian operation is expected to reach more affected areas and accelerate socio-economic recovery across Aceh and northern Sumatra.
