Thales and Danantara Indonesia Partner to Advance Strategic Technologies and Cyber Resilience in Support of Indonesia's Economic Growth

Jakarta, 24 September 2026 – Danantara Indonesia and Thales have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI), defence systems, digital technologies, and cybersecurity – four strategic sectors that are expected to strengthen Indonesia's long-term economic competitiveness, innovation capacity, and national resilience.

For Danantara Indonesia, these sectors are not only strategic technologies but also critical enablers of long-term economic growth and sovereignty. Thales, present in Indonesia for close to 50 years, brings world-class expertise in defence and digital solutions, built for the most critical environments.

The MoU establishes a strategic framework across the four areas: AI; defence systems; digital technologies; and cybersecurity. It will serve as the foundation for further discussions on potential investment projects in Indonesia. Potential projects to be explored may include defence technology manufacturing, maintenance and service facilities, airport security, AI use-cases, cybersecurity operations centers and post-quantum technologies.

Beyond combining Danantara Indonesia's investment capacity with Thales' technological expertise, the partnership creates opportunities to collaborate with state-owned enterprises (SOEs) within the Danantara Indonesia ecosystem in the relevant industries. Ultimately, these investments are expected to generate broader economic value and improve the quality of public services and opportunities available to Indonesians.

Ricardo Irwan Rei, Managing Director of Strategic Technology Initiatives, CTO Office, Danantara Indonesia , said, "Indonesia has a unique opportunity to accelerate the development of strategic technology-driven industries that will shape the future of its economy. As a long-term investor, Danantara Indonesia believes that investment in advanced technologies, digital capabilities, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure will help accelerate technology transfer, create high-skilled employment, strengthen local industrial capability, and support Indonesia's sustainable and healthy economic growth."

Guy Bonassi, Senior Vice-President for Asia and Latin America of Thales Group, shared, "Thales is thrilled to cooperate with Danantara for the first time in cutting-edge and strategic sectors such as AI and defence. We are honored to be selected by Danantara to contribute to ambitious projects that will foster economic growth and local industrial capabilities. Drawing on close to 50 years of presence in Indonesia, Thales brings technologies that safeguard the country's sovereignty and economic resilience."

The MoU serves as an initial framework, and any specific investment will be subject to further evaluation, the applicable governance and definitive agreements agreed by the parties.
