Danantara Indonesia Strengthens Economic Diplomacy, Builds Long-Term Investment Synergy with China

Beijing, May 21, 2025 – Danantara Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic partnerships between Indonesia and China through a series of strategic meetings held on May 20–21, 2025, in Beijing. The visit was part of the official delegation of the Republic of Indonesia, led by the National Economic Council (DEN), aimed at deepening bilateral relations and cross-sector investment collaboration between the two nations.

Marking the 75th anniversary of Indonesia–China diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference, Danantara Indonesia’s Chief Investment Officer, Pandu Sjahrir, participated in the Indonesian delegation's bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister H.E. Wang Yi on May 20, 2025, in Beijing.

The Chinese government expressed its support for Danantara Indonesia’s presence as a national strategic investment management body. It also committed to encouraging collaboration between Danantara Indonesia and China’s major investment institutions, including China Investment Corporation (CIC), State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC), and China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC).

CIO Pandu Patria Sjahrir joined the Indonesian delegation led by DEN Chairman Luhut

B. Panjaitan, alongside DEN Vice Chair Mari Elka Pangestu, Vice Minister of Investment Dr. Todotua Pasaribu, and Vice Minister of Finance Dr. Thomas Aquinas Djiwandono, in a series of intensive meetings with China’s top financial and investment institutions.

In the meeting with China Investment Corporation (CIC), discussions included plans for direct investment cooperation and participation in joint fund management. CIC conveyed its commitment to expanding investments in Indonesia, particularly in the healthcare, consumer, infrastructure, natural resources, and data center and technology sectors.

With the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), the world’s largest bank by assets, the discussion focused on potential financial support for renewable energy projects. ICBC also invited Danantara Indonesia to join the Belt and Road Bankers Roundtable, a prestigious forum comprising 180 financial institutions from 85 countries.

The delegation also held exploratory meetings to deepen collaboration with other key institutions, including Bank of China, SDIC, and CITIC. Pandu Sjahrir expressed optimism that the delegation’s engagements in China would significantly strengthen long-term cooperation.

"All of the meetings were highly positive. We observed a strong commitment from China’s financial and investment institutions to deepen partnerships with Indonesia, particularly through Danantara Indonesia. There is a shared spirit to build long-term partnerships that are not only mutually beneficial but also have a tangible impact on the economic transformation of both countries," said Pandu.

Through this visit, Danantara Indonesia further cements its role as a strategic catalyst in expanding global investment that directly supports national economic development. This partnership represents more than just economic diplomacy, it is a concrete step toward long-term synergy that fosters inclusive growth in Indonesia, China, and the broader region.
